Open day 8th August 2015

Our first Open Day was a great success.

On a lovely sunny day, we waited in trepidation to see if anyone would come, and by the end of the afternoon we’d had over 50 visitors. Most of them were plot holders and they brought home made cakes and produce which we sold to raise funds for Zoe’s Place, a charity that we have supported before.

There were some new faces, some literally dragged in off the street by our chairman who sat outside waiting to pounce, but some had heard of us via the article in the Nuneaton News or by our leaflet drop to local houses. They were shown around the site by enthusiastic plot holders and it must have been infectious because 3 people wanted a plot. One family were so keen they took on a plot straightaway and were working on it within hours!

The produce was beautifully arranged by Kev outside, along with a display showing the different types of compost and fertilisers. John put up a display about his experience of just a few months of having a new plot, with before and after pictures, just to show that yes, it is possible to turn a jungle into a nice outside space.

We all had a really nice time, chatting to new friends or old ones, drinking tea, eating cake and talking about growing things and the strength of Ralph’s home-made wine (again! we should know better by now).

It was a lovely afternoon, and a success in many different ways – having a get-together, introducing new people to growing their own and raising money for charity. We raised over £70 on the day and eventually had enough to send Zoe's Place a cheque for £100!

A HUGE THANK YOU to all of you for making the effort and for being so generous with your time and money! You are brilliant.
